Internal auditing (IA) is an independent, objective assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve an organization's operations. It helps an organization accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes.

The new way of how IA provides assurance to the business is embedding Data analytics in every phase of the audit process (“Data driven auditing”). Sr auditors as part of the team, use data analytics in the risk assessment, objectives, scope and fieldwork phases of the Audit engagements. Data driven auditing relies on analytics technologies to enable new ways of gathering, analyzing and presenting data. We think analytics is about delivering new business insight and enhancing the way we audit.

We believe analytics is more effective when delivered as an integrated team. Our audits combine data science and data analytics professionals along with other IA professionals.

While traditional IA functions may leverage analytics to select samples, extrapolate results, or identify exceptions,  data driven auditing goes beyond this basic process by exploiting vast amounts of data with greater accuracy and efficiency.
